Backups are Big Business

According to Investors Business Daily, storage has become a $50 billion market, rife with competition.

Storage is a growth sector because data is a growth sector. "The world produces 250 megabytes of unique information per year for every man, woman and child on earth," writes IBD's Brian Deagon, citing a study by UC Berkeley. (What I want to know is how they figured that out.) Remember to protect your unique information by backing it up regularly—and maybe you should buy a few shares of Seagate while you're at it.

Thanks to your friendly reminders about backing up, and a gnawing feeling of paranoia, a went out to Frye's and bought an external hard drive to back the whole system up!

True to form, I just got an impulse and went shopping without doing any product research beforehand. I got lucky. I bought a Maxtor OneTouch.

It was tricky getting it installed, (one Sunday afternoon shot to hell and an hour on the phone with a couple of great tech guys at the company) but now it is cracking. I backed up everything, operating systems and all my data, in a couple of hours. I am scheduling this every Sunday at 1 a.m.

Turns out, that apart from some software/network conflicts during the installation process, I bought one of the finest systems around.
It is amazing what you can get for $229...seriously, it is worth it to not have to worry about losing my business files and my income from my internet business.

Thanks, Ms. FileSlinger, for the heads up!

Note everyone that "One Touch" really means "a whole day to set it up, after which you can back up at the press of a button."
